Technicians Advice

If your hose is wearing a stripe on one side of the cover, a missing or misadjusted guide is why. A guide costs a fraction of a hose and will pay for itself the first time.

Reel spares are worth keeping on the truck rather than ordering when it stops. A hose stop is the cheapest insurance on the whole assembly - fit it about 300 mm back from the coupling so the fitting never reaches the guide arm, and a rubber part under fifty dollars saves a swivel and a bent arm.

If the hose is wearing on one edge, the roller guide is out of adjustment or missing, and you will go through another hose before you go through another guide. A reel that will not rewind is a broken spring nine times out of ten, but check the ratchet is disengaged first - sometimes it is simply locked and everyone panics.
