A pilot operated check valve flows freely in one direction and blocks completely in the other — until pilot pressure from the opposite line opens it.
How to plumb it

The usual job is holding a cylinder or a stabiliser leg. Oil goes in through V to C to extend; the check blocks the return so the leg cannot retract under load; send pressure to the other side of the cylinder and the pilot line opens the check, releasing it.
Sizing: match the port size to the line, not to the cylinder. An undersized pilot check throttles the return and makes the function feel sluggish coming back.
