Thread Standards

• SAE Code 62 Flange – SAE J518 Code 62 high-pressure split flange. It seals on a face O-ring and uses a heavier, tighter bolt pattern for high pressure.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.

How to Choose

• Code 62 has a different bolt pattern and a thicker head than Code 61. They do not interchange, even though the bore looks the same.
• The flange seals on an O-ring in the head face. Nothing goes on the bolts or the face beyond the ring.
• If the machine came with Code 62, keep it Code 62. Dropping to Code 61 on the pump side is asking for a blow-out.

Technicians Advice

Even, staged tightening in a cross pattern on all four bolts. On Code 62 the pressures are high enough that a slightly cocked head does not just weep, it lets go, and a high-pressure flange failure is not something you want to be standing near.

• SAE Code 62 Flange – High-pressure pump and motor ports on excavators and heavy plant.
• JIC 37° Male – Hose ends and ports on imported US and Asian machinery – Caterpillar, John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Bobcat, Kubota, Takeuchi.

• SAE Code 62 Flange – SAE J518 Code 62 / ISO 6162-2 high-pressure split flange. Heavier head and tighter bolt pattern than Code 61.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
