SAE Code 61 Flange x JIC 37° Male Straight Adaptor

Thread Standards

• SAE Code 61 Flange – SAE J518 Code 61 standard-pressure split flange. It seals on an O-ring captured in the flange head face, clamped by four bolts.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.

How to Choose

• The flange seals on an O-ring captured in the head face, clamped by four bolts. No sealant anywhere on this part.
• Code 61 and Code 62 are not interchangeable. Code 62 is the higher pressure standard with a different bolt pattern.
• Check the flange O-ring groove is clean and the ring is seated before you offer the head up.

Technicians Advice

Pull the four flange bolts up evenly and in a cross pattern, in stages, not one at a time to full torque. Cocking the head on one corner is what pinches the O-ring, and the leak that follows looks like a faulty seal when it was the sequence.

• SAE Code 61 Flange – Pump, motor and valve block ports from around 3/4 inch upward on US and Japanese built plant.
• JIC 37° Male – Hose ends and ports on imported US and Asian machinery – Caterpillar, John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Bobcat, Kubota, Takeuchi.

• SAE Code 61 Flange – SAE J518 Code 61 / ISO 6162-1 split flange. Also called a 4-bolt flange or standard-pressure flange.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
