Comet RWN4030S Belt Drive Triplex Pump - 14.3 L/min, 3,000 psi

The workhorse of the Comet belt drive range. The RW covers everything from a hard working single operator machine up to serious wash bay and drain jetting duty, and it is the pump most Australian machine builders reach for when they want flow and pressure without going to a 30 mm shaft. Same cast crankcase and ceramic plunger construction as the smaller LW, sized up.

The Comet RWN4030S delivers 14.3 L/min at 3,000 psi running at 1,000 rpm, with a 24mm solid shaft.

Technicians Advice

• Starve a plunger pump and you will kill it. These want a flooded inlet or a gravity feed. A long, thin, or half collapsed suction hose will cavitate the pump and you will hear it as a rattle before you see it as pitted plungers and a shredded seal kit.
• The unloader does more damage than the pump ever will. Running in bypass for long stretches heats the water, and hot water in a bypass loop cooks the seals. If the operator sits on the trigger lock with the gun shut, fit a bypass line back to tank rather than a loop.
• Change the oil early and often. First change at about 50 hours to clear the run-in debris, then every 500. Milky oil means water has got past the seals and the pump is telling you the seal kit is due, not that it has failed.
• Belt tension is a real setting, not a guess. Too loose and you glaze the belt and lose flow under load; too tight and you side load the crankshaft bearing. A correctly tensioned belt deflects about 10 to 15 mm at the middle of the span under firm thumb pressure.
• Water quality decides seal life more than hours do. Bore water and recycled wash bay water carry grit that laps the ceramic plungers. A 50 mesh inlet filter on the suction side is the cheapest insurance you will ever fit to one of these.
• Never run it dry, not even for a few seconds. The water is the lubricant and the coolant for the plunger seals. Priming a dry pump with the gun shut is how a new pump turns into a warranty argument.
