A soft switch valve shifts its spool slowly — typically over a fraction of a second rather than instantly. That single change removes the hydraulic hammer you get when a standard solenoid valve slams open or shut.

When you need one

  • Long hose runs — the longer the column of oil, the harder it hits when you stop it suddenly.
  • Heavy or suspended loads — a hard shift makes a boom or platform lurch, which is unpleasant and hard on the structure.
  • Anything that keeps breaking fittings or hoses — repeated pressure spikes are usually the reason.
  • Carrying people or fragile goods — smoothness is the whole point.

The trade-off is cycle time. If a machine depends on very fast switching, a soft switch valve will slow it.

Switching power limits assume flow in two directions. Where there is flow in one direction only, the permitted limit may be considerably lower.
