CAT 5CP2140WCS High Pressure Plunger Pump - 19 L/min, 2,000 psi

CAT Pumps are the ones that outlive the machine. American built, solid shaft, and specified into industrial wash bays, car wash tunnels and process water duty where downtime costs more than the pump does. Expensive to buy, cheap over ten years.

The CAT 5CP2140WCS delivers 19 L/min at 2,000 psi running at 1,188 rpm, with a solid shaft.

Technicians Advice

  • These are built for duty cycle, so feed them properly. A forged crankcase and ceramic plungers will outlast the machine around them, but only if the inlet keeps up. Flooded suction, short and generous hose, and a proper inlet filter.
  • Match the pump speed to the drive. Running a 1,450 rpm pump at 1,750, or the other way round, changes both flow and the load on the valves. It is the quickest way to turn a twenty year pump into a five year one.
  • The unloader and the pump are one system. Size the unloader to the pump flow, not to the hose. An undersized unloader spikes the pressure every time the gun shuts and hammers the valve seats.
  • Oil first, hours second. Run in change at 50 hours, then every 500. Use the oil the manufacturer specifies - these are not gearboxes and a heavier oil does not help.
  • Watch the weep holes. A drip from the weep hole under load is the low pressure seal telling you it is worn. Fix it then, before the water gets past into the crankcase.
  • Never run it dry. The plunger seals need water for lubrication and cooling, and there is no grace period.
