BSP Tapered Male x ORFS Male Straight Adaptor

BSP tapered one end, O-ring face seal the other. Puts a flat-face ORFS connection onto a BSPT port, which is how most high-vibration machines get away from thread-sealed joints.

Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.
• ORFS Male – SAE J1453 O-ring face seal. It seals on an O-ring sitting in the flat face groove, never on the thread.

How to Choose

• Two different sealing methods on one part. The ORFS end seals on the O-ring in the face, the BSPT end seals on the thread and still needs sealant.
• Check the face groove is clean and the O-ring is seated square before you offer it up. A ring rolled out of the groove will not show until the machine is under load.
• ORFS thread size and line size are not the same number. A 3/4-16 ORFS end runs a 1/2" line, so work to the dash size.

Technicians Advice

If an ORFS joint weeps, pull it apart and look at the O-ring before you touch the spanner. Nine times out of ten it has been nicked going in or left out altogether. More torque on a face seal just flattens the ring and makes the next attempt worse.

• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.
• ORFS Male – High-pressure, high-vibration circuits on late-model excavators, drill rigs, crushers and forestry gear.

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21, written R for male. Sometimes labelled PT or BSP taper.
• ORFS Male – SAE J1453 / ISO 8434-3 O-ring face seal. Parker call this series Seal-Lok. Also written ORFS or flat face.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.

Cross-references are given at series level as a guide to the standard, not as a part-for-part substitution. Always confirm the thread form, size and seal type against the port before ordering.
