BSP Tapered Male x Metric Stud Male Straight Adaptor

Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.
• Metric Stud Male – metric straight thread with a captive soft seal. It seals on a bonded washer or O-ring under the stud shoulder, not on the thread.

How to Choose

• The metric stud seals under the shoulder, not on the thread. It needs its bonded washer or O-ring.
• Confirm the metric thread pitch against the block - metric ports of the same diameter come in more than one pitch.
• Tape or sealant on the BSPT end only.

Technicians Advice

One end seals on the thread and one on a washer, and they want opposite treatment. Tape the BSPT, fit a fresh seal to the stud, and make sure the block face is clean and flat. A crushed washer will not take up the gap a second time.

• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.
• Metric Stud Male – European valve blocks and manifolds using a metric port with a soft seal under the shoulder.
