BSP Tapered Male x Metric Komatsu Male Straight Adaptor

BSPT into an Australian port, Komatsu metric flare out to the machine. The Komatsu pattern uses a 30° flare, a different angle again to JIC 37° and DIN metric 24°, and none of the three interchange.

Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.
• Metric Komatsu Male (JIS metric) – JIS metric 30° flare pattern used by Komatsu. It seals on the 30° flare seat, which is a different angle again to JIC or metric 24°.

How to Choose

• Check the flare angle, not just the thread. Komatsu metric is 30°, JIC is 37°, DIN metric is 24°.
• Tape or sealant on the BSPT end only. The Komatsu flare seals on its seat.
• Komatsu metric turns up alongside JIS BSP on the same machine, so identify each port rather than assuming.

Technicians Advice

Three flare angles that all look similar at a glance is exactly how the wrong part gets fitted. If a Komatsu joint weeps after a repair, put the old and new fittings nose to nose and look along the cones - a 7 degree difference is visible when you compare them directly.

• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.
• Metric Komatsu Male (JIS metric) – Komatsu excavators, dozers and loaders, and other Japanese plant using the JIS metric flare.

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21, written R for male. Sometimes labelled PT or BSP taper.
• Metric Komatsu Male (JIS metric) – JIS metric 30° flare, commonly called Komatsu metric. Not interchangeable with DIN 2353 24° cone or JIC 37°.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
