How to choose
- A plug fills a female port or fitting; a cap covers a male end. Male thread showing = you need a cap; open hole = you need a plug.
- Measure the thread outside diameter and match it to the size column – the dash number in brackets is the thread size in 1/16ths of an inch.

Technicians Advice
Tapered plugs seal on the thread: liquid sealant or PTFE tape wound with the thread direction, keeping the first two threads bare so shreds cannot enter the system. Torque by feel, not by fear – a taper tightens progressively and over-driving it splits female ports, especially aluminium housings and pump bodies.
