Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.

How to Choose

• A plug is male and blocks a female port. A cap is female and covers a male end. Work out which one the open connection is before you order.
• The tapered thread seals on itself and needs sealant. Anaerobic sealant or PTFE tape wound the way the thread turns.
• BSPT is 55°. A 60° NPT plug will start and then tear the port thread out.

Technicians Advice

Hand tight plus two or three turns and stop. A tapered plug wedges as it goes, and winding one hard into a cast valve body is one of the easier ways to crack a housing for no good reason.
