Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.

How to Choose

• A plug is male and blocks a female port. A cap is female and covers a male end. Work out which one the open connection is before you order.
• Countersunk means the head takes an internal hex key and sits flush or below the port face. Handy where there is no room for a spanner, but you need the right allen key on the truck.
• The tapered thread still seals on itself and still needs sealant.

Technicians Advice

Keep the tape back off the first two threads. On a countersunk plug the tail has nowhere to go but into the port, and a strip of PTFE loose in a valve is a far bigger job than the plug ever was.
