BSP Banjo Bolt

The bolt half of a BSP banjo connection. Passes through the banjo eye and screws into the port, with the oil passing through drillings in the bolt.

Brand: Ayrtec – mild steel body with a plated finish, manufactured to the standards listed below.

Thread Standards

  • BSP Banjo (eye fitting) – a drilled eye that a banjo bolt passes through, with the port thread on the bolt. It seals on a bonded washer either side of the eye, squeezed by the banjo bolt – two washers, not one.

How to Choose

  • A banjo joint needs two bonded washers, one either side of the eye. One washer is the most common banjo mistake there is.
  • The bolt is drilled through. Never substitute an ordinary bolt of the same thread, because there is no flow path through it.
  • Match the bolt to the eye and the port. Bolt, eye and two washers all have to be right.

Technicians Advice

Fit both washers, then set the eye to the angle you want before you take the bolt up, because the eye will turn as you tighten. Hold the eye and tighten the bolt, not the other way round.

Where You’ll Find It

  • BSP Banjo (eye fitting) – tight installations where a hose has to leave a port at a set angle and there is no room to swing a fitting – brake and clutch lines, compressors, and cramped valve blocks.

Cross-Reference

  • BSP Banjo (eye fitting) – Banjo / eye fitting to BSP. The eye swivels on the bolt until the bolt is tightened, which is why it suits awkward angles.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.

Cross-references are given at series level as a guide to the standard, not as a part-for-part substitution. Always confirm the thread form, size and seal type against the port before ordering.
