When there is no room, this is the cylinder. A 5 ton CP50 is 33 mm tall collapsed and fits under things you would not think you could get a jack under at all, and the range runs all the way to 150 ton in 100 mm of height. The trade off is stroke – 6 to 17 mm, enough to break a joint, take up load or start a lift, then pack and go again. Made in Taiwan with a 30 year manufacturer warranty.

Low profile cylinders are the ones people damage by asking for stroke they do not have. There is 6 to 17 mm in these and no more; running the plunger into the internal stop while you keep pumping is how the top gets pushed out of one. Count your stroke and stop. The other habit worth having is packing as you go: get your 12 mm, slide steel or hardwood packers in, let the load down onto the pack, retract and start again with a taller base.
It feels slow and it is far quicker than dealing with what happens when a pancake jack squirts out sideways. Because the body is wide and short, these are much more sensitive to an uneven seat than a tall cylinder – any rock in the base and the load walks off the plunger. Clean the seat, use the full face, and keep your fingers out from under. On the 100 and 150 ton models check what is underneath as well; a CP1500 puts 150 tonnes through a 225 mm circle and concrete does not always agree to that.
